The OACIQ signs the Canadian Code of Conduct
on Artificial Intelligence

Brossard, April 23, 2024 – The Organisme d’autoréglementation du courtage immobilier du Québec (OACIQ), is committed to respect the Voluntary Code of Conduct on the Responsible Development and Management of Advanced Generative AI Systems and becomes a signatory. As a regulator overseeing real estate brokerage in Quebec, the OACIQ adopts the highest standards of compliance in its activities, and it is also in this position that it invests ethically and responsibly in artificial intelligence.

A consistent commitment to the OACIQ’s regulatory role

The Department of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada introduced the Voluntary AI Code in 2023 to support the continued development of a reliable and responsible artificial intelligence ecosystem in Canada. Rigorous criteria must be met by the signatories of this code and the OACIQ has demonstrated the concrete measures taken to ensure accountability, safety, justice and fairness, transparency, human oversight, and the validity and reliability of their artificial intelligence system.

The OACIQ is also committed to contributing, among other things, to the development and application of standards, as well as to transmitting information and best practices to other members of the AI ecosystem in Canada. This was demonstrated at a conference with other Canadian regulators this month.

A tool to support public protection

The OACIQ’s approach is consistent with the arrival of artificial intelligence in the supervision of real estate brokerage in Quebec. Last December, the OACIQ launched ÉLISE, the conversational agent of the Info OACIQ information centre on its website. In a matter of seconds, ÉLISE can answer questions from the public, real estate brokers and agency executives 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Since the launch, more than 20,000 questions have been answered by the virtual agent with an accuracy rate of 99.9%.

“We see that exploring artificial intelligence and using it as a tool to help guide real estate brokerage and achieve its unique mission of protecting the public is bearing fruit. In addition, our approach helps unlock the full potential of our employees by automating less valuable tasks,” says Nadine Lindsay, President and CEO of the OACIQ.

“The OACIQ continues its innovation efforts to evolve with current technological trends while maintaining an optimal ethics in the use of these new technologies,” concludes Nadine Lindsay.
